Wiki...mmmm...I would define it as an extra friendly encyclopedia, It is the largest and perhaps the most well known of these knowledge sharing tools. There is always a good and a bad side to such options...Lets look @ da Goody bit...

Vandalism and spam Other uses of Wiki's are Conference planning, Collaborative editing of documents,Meetings (posting agendas, discussion prior to meeting, etc.) Project space, there's more to it ...but less space for me ;))
Very useful for creating online communities ,particularly for libraries...with different groups of patron...it is kinda one stop shop for all age groups be it schools, social groups and many more, from which we can learn and share @ da same time. but yeah with caution as all information may not be so called "Correct".....the best part is that we can just go and correct it ...we donot need HTML. For us libraries,a very good communication tool.
